Ten days to the crucial encounter between Nigeria and Argentina in South Africa 2010 World Cup, Super Eagles of Nigeria’s Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback, has assured Nigerians that the Eagles will contain the Argentines come June 12.
This assurance is coming amidst doubts and fears, amongst Nigerian fans, that the country lacks a formidable World Cup team fit to beat Argentina. The doubt shot to an all time high after Super Eagles dismal performance against Saudi Arabia in which the game ended a goal-less draw. And even though their second outing, against Columbia, sparked up hope in some quarters, the general feeling is that nothing short of miracle would make Nigeria scale through the first round of the competition, especially the match against Argentina.
But Lars Lagerback says Eagles have much prospect and can withstand Argentina.
In his own words: “I think it’s too early to write off this team and I want Nigerian fans to have confidence in this team. We’ve just started and I think the players’ attitudes have been excellent but we faced some challenges before the Saudi Arabia game.”
Largerback added that Nigeria could withstand Argentina despite the widespread fear of Messi, stressing that Argentina is not all about Messi.
“We will do everything in our preparation to hold down Argentina,” he promised.
